Los Angeles does not get rain often – which is why many roof problems go unnoticed until the first big storm. If your roof starts leaking, a few quick steps limit the damage.

What to Do When Your Roof Leaks

1. Protect the inside of the house

Move furniture and electronics away, put a bucket under the drip and lay towels down. If water is pooling in a bulge on the ceiling, a small hole in the center lets it drain into the bucket instead of bringing down a larger section.

2. Stay off the roof

Wet roofs and tiles are slippery and dangerous. Never climb up during or right after rain.

3. Look for the source from inside

If you can safely reach the attic, look for wet wood or insulation. Water often travels along rafters, so the stain on the ceiling may be several feet from the actual hole.

4. Take photos

Photos help the roofer and may be useful for an insurance claim.

5. Call a roofer

Common causes are cracked tiles, missing shingles, failed flashing around chimneys and vents, and clogged valleys and gutters. Call NR Roofing at (818) 433-8632 or see leaking roof repair.
